Cooking Like "Julia"

I just had a "Julie &Julia" moment that I had to tell you about...since I know you can appreciate it. I worked through lunch today and thus missed my opportunity to eat. Not too daunted, I waited and found myself in a position of having nothing to do---which is very seldom these days. Both the girls were asleep, work was done, housework...well, mostly done and I was starving! So, I decided to try my hand at creating something different. Now, I don't want to hear from ANYONE that this has been done before because I know it has, BUT it was new for me. I grilled some tomato slices, toasted some bread and fried an egg. It sounds simple because it was, but when you put them together with some secret spices it was a masterpiece in your mouth! Oh, joy!!! It was a moment where everything in the world was ok. :)

Ok,...I hate to sound like I'm all about the food but that's all I wanted to share today. So, have a wonderful day and eat well...;)

Working Moms!!!

Today my heart goes out to all mothers that have to work outside the home!!! I've recently found myself in a position of working 'at home' and I've gotta tell you it's not easy. Doing anything outside of the everyday mom stuff makes everything else really hard to juggle. How are moms actually able to leave their homes and babies and come back and have anything different than a hectic, crazy home life? Thankfully, my "work" is VERY part-time, in fact so part-time that I really shouldn't be complaining, alas my horrible human nature!!! Still, it's quite the adjustment, learning how to manage my time and energies so I have time for my husband, my girls, my family, my friends, my work and myself. And, I won't even go into time for the Lord as that is always something I try harder to incorporate.

What am I doing...you may ask? Well, I have began to manage the secretarial part of my parent's family business. I really do like what I do very much, [isn't that a nice sounding sentence?] I just don't like the effort it's taking to make sure it doesn't completely rule out everything else on my mind and in my life. Back to the work side of it, it's been great being able to take orders, sort inventory, research affiliate marketing options etc.

Ryan and I are also seriously considering venturing out with our own business and have already bought the domain name of Catholic Family Heirlooms. I guess I'll have to tell you more about that later as Bella found my leg and is now crying at it...:)

Hello again!

Hi Emily,

How exciting! I would have loved to see the play! I know Markie, and the rest, would have been awesome!
Sick? again? and You think I'm the one whos always sick? ok, sorry you are sick. I hope we don't get it. I'm just starting to feel quesey and nausous. I had a long day today. And when I'm tired like this I can barely function. Yesterday, I heard my mom tell her friend, "She's due in September." My thoughts, "Whos due? . . OH, I'M DUE. . . YAY!" LOL I know crazy, right?
John Paul is stayed over a couple of nights. So today I took him and Marcos to Chuck E. Cheese. I went to a further location because they have a special toddler section. Nancy and her daughter met me there. After I went with Nancy to a clinic for a pregnacy test. Of couse it was positive. I took that to a WIC office to re-sign for myself. They needed a doctors form filled out that I took to Dr. Roch. He couldn't do a blood test but he filled everything else out. Turns out they send that paper to a main office and need the blood test so I have to schedule an appointment. I'm worried. I don't want them to prick him. I also don't want to hear the same old speech about immunizations. Why can't they just accept my decision about my children??
I hope I get to talk to you soon!
Love, Ilse

The Proud Big Sister

To FINALLY continue:

I am back! I found out Bella was sick and shortly after that realization I found myself in the same predicament. Have you received your stomach virus, yet, this season? Anyways, there are still a few down with the sickness---as we are now in a household of 14 and things pass around fast, but I finally found the computer free and decided to finish what was supposed to be a long epilogue about all that has been going on around here. Now, however I guess I'll cut it short as I'm bound to be called upon shortly by...well, you know who...shhhhh, she's sleeping...:)
So, the second "exciting" event that occurred was the performance of my brother's play! I tried to write the night I saw it (alas, one of my previously mentioned calamities occurred!) because I was so excited about the outcome of all their hard work. My "little" brother JA, along with Markie, NO-NO and Polly (aka: John-Anthony, Mark-Anthony, Anisa and Patrick) starred in "A Star in the Night. It's not a very well known story. Actually, JA was watching TCM late one night and it was one of those in-between-movies that they air. After he saw it, he looked all over for the movie on the internet so he could share what he saw with the rest of the family. Well, eventually he found it as a "Special Features" on 'Christmas in Connecticut'. [Remember that movie with Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan?] Anyways, at some point he had the idea that it would make a great play, couldn't find a script, wrote one himself, got his friends together, cast them for the parts and put it together. We saw the finished product on Jan. 14 and demanded an encore for the 16th! It was an awesome play! Great story-line, great casting and great performing!!! Ok, I know I'm the big sister but I'm not the only one who thought so. It was recorded, so I'll have to get you a copy of the show so you can see for yourself. BTW: Markie was the lead and acted out his part with an Italian accent-which really made the play!!!

Well, as I guessed I currently have Bella pulling at my leg while I write...does she have a daddy? Yes, but somehow whenever she sees me on the computer...I'm the only one that makes her happy. Why, I HAVE NOOOOO IDEA!!!!!!

Hope to write soon!

Emily :)

Midnight Snack Time

Hello my dear friend after a very long absence!

Tonight I found myself eating a "midnight" snack at 9 'o clock and realized that the baby was asleep, Ryan was occupied, the computer was free and I wasn't exhausted!!! Factors that have not all worked together for over a week.
I'm so grateful to be able to have this time to catch-up with you because as life continues to happen when I'm not blogging, the things I have to tell you keep stacking up.
Last week was quite an adventure! We had two very out-of-ordinary experiences. One, our dear friends from Virginia came suddenly to visit! Their daughter had just been married in Texas-where they used to live, and they were on their way back home. It was so nice seeing them again! Also, a little dissapointing as they are no longer all together. This beimg the second child to wed, and Ray flying home...only left 5 kids for us to visit with.
....okay, seems like the forces are against me, the baby is up and screaming!!! I think she's breaking in another tooth. This will be her first up top, if it's where I think it is. BTW: that's why the early evenings have been happening. She is sleeping horribly at nights right now.

Well, will try to finish soon...

Clarisa

It Starts

Hola Comadre,
I hope all are well. It started-the long sleepless nights that comes with pregnancy. Have your pregnancies been like this? Last night my mind would just not turn off: baby names, schedules, storms, this weekend and even what I'ld be writing here. Did I mention we had a tornado warning yesterday for Orange county? Can you imagine a tornado here?! I almost called you to ask what I should do, seeing as we don't have any basements in sunny California.

Anyway, I am so excited about a book I am reading, A Mother's Rule of Life: How to Bring Order to Your Home and Peace to Your Soul. It is the Catholic, homeschooling version of Flylady!! She starts by breaking life down to 5 points: Prayer, Person, Partner, Parent and Provider. She even shows you how to create a kind of "Control Journal" like Flylady. I first heard about this book from a Catholic mom I met via Facebook who lives in Japan! I just started reading it and already love it. Remember how I explained once that I finally figured that in order for me to get in organized I had to make my prayer life a priority? Well that exactly what she says. I ordered the book on Amazon. Hopefullly you can get it also.

I hope I hear from you soon!

xoxo,
Amberlina

Catching Up

Hey Comadre,
I'm back. I was at my parents house this weekend. I stayed in extra day to go to the DMV today. It went smoothly, thanks for the prayers. Great job keeping this up!
I wish I could have gone with you and Jennifer to Denny's. Even though I'm craving Cracker Barrel. They really should open one up out here. I really want some sourdough french toast!! YUM! That's good it went well but it does make it harder to complain. They should send her to the drive thru I had to deal with when I was out there. The name escapes me . . .

I'm very glad you have no regrets. It can eat away inside of you. I was concerned that you would have to buy all your dishes, towels, etc. all over again. But good excuse to go shopping! I would like to go buy new things for my kitchen and bathroom. anyway, back to you . . . I completely agree with you: Our Divine King always know whats best for us. I'm grateful for the time we got to spend together while you were here. It was so much fun taking our kids trick-o-treating. I'm glad we had a cake here for you. Meeting you at the mall was a dream come true which I will always treasure. So even though you up and left multiple times this year, I think you are where Our Lord wants you. Who knows, maybe you avoided some bad mishap had you stayed in Alabama . . . . or California. You created amazing memories with you family. Ryan learned and had great experiences. Now you are back to start anew!

So here's my update: We took down the Christmas decorations. Marcos even helped by taking down the ornaments and handing them to me. He is understanding so much! I hand him his daiper and say, "Poner en la basura" and he takes it! He also listens when I tell him pick it up, over there and give it to me. I'm so proud of my big boy! I picked up his 1st birthday pictures so keep an eye out in the mail! Oh, and we cut off his curls. I was so excited to give him his first haircut. After we were done I almost cried because his curls were gone. I still haven't brought myself to throw away his hair.

As far as Artemis Fowl, I never could finish one of those books. My idea of a fairy and the way they are described in the book do not mesh. Don't you remember my twin faries, Anthony and Anastasia??!

Good to be back!

Amber
